Savigny & Co. was one of London's most prominent and historically significant manufacturers of high-end cutlery, pocket knives, razors, and surgical instruments. Operating for roughly 150 years, the firm’s tenure at 67 St. James’s Street marked its golden age during the 19th century. This is an excellent Victorian era Bowie Knife by Savigny & Co in its original leather scabbard and is in similar form to Scottish dirks of that era. The knife's 5 ¾” spear point bowie blade is clean and has a decorative scalloped section on the spine. The knife measures 9 ¾” overall length. The blade is marked on one side with the manufacturer’s name ‘Savigny & Co 67 St James St’ and has fullers either side. It has undamaged chequered horn scales secured by German Silver pins. The steel grip frame incorporates a folding cork screw. The knife is complete with original open top brown leather scabbard which has an integral single leather belt loop to the rear.
