RARE** 1890 Dated Boer War Era British WD 3 Rivet, 1st Type, 1st Pattern, P.1888 Lee Metford Bayonet, Scabbard & Leather Frog. Sn 23769 Bayonet

This is a rare 3 rivet, 1st type, 1st Pattern, P1888 Lee Metford Bayonet with scabbard and frog as used by British troops during the Boer Wars (see page 387 plate No. 801 of The Bayonet Book by Watts & White). The bayonet has its original wooden grips with the rare 3 brass rivets and oil holes in the wood grips. The right hand grip is stamped 56. The 12" double edged blade with medial ridge is stamped on the recasso crown VR (Victoria Regina) 2 ’90 (February 1890 date) on one side and a crowfoot WD crown 45 E (Enfield). The top of the blade near the hilt is stamped crown 10 E crown 94 E (Enfield). The left hand side of the pommel is stamped with C C and 2 opposing crowfoots (later issue to the Cadet Corps), The pommel’s steel release button works as it should and the pommel is stamped on the left hand side C C and 2 opposing crowfoots (later issue to the Cadet Corps), The bayonet has an original black leather scabbard with steel locket and chape. The throat mount of the scabbard is numbered 636 and the rear of the leather is stamped C C and 2 opposing crowfoots (later issue to the Cadet Corps) a crowfoot EFD (Enfield) 02. The scabbard is fitted with original 8 rivet buff leather frog with belt loop and retaining strap with brass buckle with a blanco finish to the front.
