RARE, British, Pattern 1863 Whitworth Rifle Yatahgan Sword Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 370 Bayonet

This is a good example of the rare Whitworth 1863 pattern yataghan sword bayonet and scabbard used on the Enfield Pattern 1863 Whitworth rifle. Approximately 8,206 Whitworth rifles were produced together with the bayonets making it a rare item. The 580mm heavy recurved yataghan blade has a broad, flat spine. The single edged blade is deeply fullered on both sides and terminates in a spear point. The blade is in excellent condition and is clean and bright. One side of the ricasso bears the crowned VR cypher of Queen Victoria and the obverse bears an Enfield inspection stamp. The spine is stamped with the letter J. The top of the pommel bears an Enfield inspection mark. The grips are in excellent condition and are made of chequered black leather held by steel pins.
