This is a scarce sword bayonet specially made for the Gurkha Brunswick smoothbore gun which was produced in the early 1850s and is associated with Sergeants of Infantry. There were 2 patterns of bayonet for this rifle, one with an iron hilt and the other with a bass ribbed hilt. The bayonet measures 26 ½ inches in length with a 22 inch single edged blade with a spear point. The bayonet release catch is made of iron and protrudes inside the grip. The release spring is a simple leaf spring retained by a single screw. The bayonet is in good condition and price includes U.K. delivery.
