Watkin killed in action meiktila burma 14 march 1945 a sad reminder of the cost in lives of war’. The blade of this sword is a standard medium quality showa-to oil quenched sword, from an arsenal with brass hand guard (tsuba) no gilt left, metal & leather seppa. Tsuka has gunto mounts, two cherry blossom menuki, not fitted with a safety catch, had leather retaining strap (missing), also missing knot & loop (sarute). One, in the field repair to binding to stop unravelling. A well carried sword. An interesting relic of war with poignant silver remembrance plaque of a life lost”. He measures the cutting edge as 63 cm, total length 86 cm and describes other blade and tang measurements & characteristics which can be seen in the images.
