During World War I, the Remington Arms Company manufactured Model 1891 Mosin-Nagant rifles under a massive contract for the Imperial Czar Nicholas II of Russia & his Russian government during World War I . After the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 the Russian contracts were terminated and many 1891 Moslin Nagant rifles manufactured by Remington were purchased by the U.S Ordnance Department. When the U.S. 395th Infantry Regiment deployed to North Russia in 1918 it was issued U.S. Model 1891 Nagant rifles manufactured by Remington to enable the troops to utilize stores of 7.62 Russian ammunition and make Model 1917 and Model 1903 rifles available to the American Expeditionary Force in France. The 395th Infantry saw considerable action against Bolshevik troops in North Russia before the American and British forces were withdrawn in August 1919. Some U.S. Model 1891 Nagant rifles were issued to U.S. forces sent to Siberia in 1919. This is an excellent, scarce to find, original WW1 1917 dated Moisin Nagant Model 1891 rifle by Remington USA, one of those made made under Czar Nicholas II Russian contract. It has undamaged metal work with original blue finish and all original black American Walnut furniture which is undamaged and has just light bumps & bruises to be expected. The Barrel shank is stamped with crisp Russian Eagle, Remington Armory manufacturer detail, 1917 date and serial number 278816. The magazine plate has matching number, the bolt has un-matching number. The weapon has its original cleaning rod, adjustable rear sight, fixed fore sight, sling swivels fitted with period webbing & leather sling and steel butt plate. Deactivated to UK specification in 2006 the weapon cocks & dry fires & it’s hinged magazine plate opens and closes as it should.
