Description

Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 2970. A very scarce Cased Colt model 1849 London pocket .31 percussion revolver. Circa 1853-1857. The six inch barrel marked {ADDRESS. COL. COLT LONDON} and stamped with London proof marks. All firearms sold in the U.K. were required by the British Government to be proof fired and proof marked on alternate chambers of the cylinder with Crown over GP and Crown over V. The barrel was proof marked on the left side, both proof stamps were next to each other. Later London Pocket revolvers were sold into the American market being made up from parts that were shipped back to Hartford after the London factory closed in 1857. Some of these will not be British proofed. It is estimated that about 11,000 revolvers were manufactured in London and around three thousand of the production were cased. The stage coach cylinder scene is clearly visible on this example. All matching serial numbers. Complete in its correct London box (12 X 6 inches) with a brass escutcheon to the lid and its original blue baize lining. The inside of the case lid has the original Colt paper label with its loading and cleaning instructions. Case contains cleaning rod, L-shaped nipple wrench, James Dixon & Sons Sheffield bag shaped flask, Colt patent bullet mold and a London cap tin. Nice crisp action. The revolver is therefore one of only three thousand that were manufactured and is in very good condition overall retaining much of it's original blued finish. Ref 2970. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only. No Licence is required in the United Kingdom.
