Probably mid 19th century. The scabbard top mount is embossed with a family crest depicting a hand holding a serrated sword, with the initials F.H. set amongst traditional thistle decoration. The Pommel top with silver plated mount. The scabbard mounts of silver plate and each is decorated with thistles etc. The dirk is complete with its matching bi-knife and fork, which also have matching silver-plated mounts to the hilts. The bi-knife also marked with the makers name ''LYON EDINBURGH''. The black wooden traditional hilt finely carved overall with basket work design and inset with tiny metal studs. Complete in its black leather scabbard with matching mounts. Single edged blade with some signs of wear and use, the back edge of blade is scalloped and the blade has the makers name F. A. LYON EDINBURGH. Overall length in scabbard is 17 inches. A nice rare Scottish piece that could probably be traced to the family through the crest & initials. In well used condition. Ref 3789.
