A nice original scarce helmet of the Bodyguard of the Khedive of Egypt circa 1870 (Khedivate Ismail Pasha 1867 – 1879). Its iron skull is clean with just one shallow dent to the rear aspect consistent with service use. It has brass mounts including flights of the arrow-shaped adjustable nasal bar, retaining bracket, applied embossed border and turned over edge of the neck-guard. The left and right sides of the helmet are absent their original boss mounts. The iron Islamic crescent finial fixes to the prominent brass boss surmounting the skull.
