Description

~ Very Fine Georgian General Mameluke Blue and Gilt Sabre Similar to Loyd Sword Design Circa 1800 ~

This is an exceptional piece gold-gilded throughout with a blue and gilt blade.

The blade is decorated with arms and banners and the grip and crossguard are decorated with Roman Empire-themed embossed symbols.

The piece comes with its original bullion tassel, with a red rosette finial.

The ivory grips are also decorated with floral rose gold inserts and with one cartouch between two rosettes on each side depicting mythical characters.

The extremities of the crossguard have acorn finials.

The edge of the grips' spine is embosed with Roman fasces and the pommel section with a Roman praetors' helmet and arms and banners.

The scabbard is decorated with foliage.

The piece came from the Pansely estate in Ireland in the 1980s.

~ Condition ~

There is some age-related loss of gilt in some places but overall the condition of the sword is excellent, as is the blade.

The scabbard has a bit more wear, as is to be expected from a piece of its age.

~ Dimension ~

The blade length is 29 1/2 inches (75 cm).

The overall length of the piece is 36 inches (92 cm).

It weighs 1.5 kg.
