This is a very rare 2nd pattern sword bayonet and scabbard for the Baker rifle introduced in 1800. The bayonet is in excellent condition and is complete with the very hard to find brass mounted black leather scabbard. The spine of the single spear pointed blade is stamped HILL, the maker of the bayonet. The brass crossguard is engraved LD (Battalion of London) over F3 and a crowfoot. The knuckle bow is stamped with the weapon number 88. The hilt is in excellent condition and the leaf spring and release catch work as they should. The brass mounted scabbard is in excellent condition and are rarely found with the bayonet. The brass fittings are held to the leather scabbard with stables and the chape has a frog stud. the leather is free from cracks and the stitching is intact. The bayonet retains the original black leather sealing washer under the crossguard. The bayonet has an overall length of 29 inches with a blade length of 22 1/82 inches.
