Description

~ Very Rare Circa 1765 Canada Export Brown Bess Type Musket Full Gauge ~

This is a .80 calibre musket with a 50 inch barrel used for hunting buffaloes. It is a rare, very well preserved piece.

The only stamp on it, number ‘30’, can be found on the top of the barrel nearby the locking mechanism.

The barrel is half hexagonal and half cylindrical, becoming hexagonal again at the muzzle and is fitted with a sight.

A screw fitted behind the lock section acts as a rear sight.

The woodwork is similar to the Brown Bess stock but much larger, as is the firing mechanism and all its other components.

The musket half cocks, cocks and releases with a strong spring.

~ Dimensions ~

The barrel length is 50 inches (127 cm) and the overall length of the musket is 65 inches (165 cm).

It weighs 6.6 kg.

~ Condition ~

The musket is in good condition for its age.

The woodwork has developed some cracks on the butt and a large chip underneath the barrel, as seen in the pictures. It is also wormed in areas.

The metal lock has been polished at one point in time to prevent it rusting.

The barrel has some age pitting and minor surface rust but its overall condition is good.

The ramrod is present but not photographed.

~ Postage ~

UK postage is £25, international at cost and it can be viewed in our shop.
