Description

**VERY RARE**GALLIPOLI ISSUE**Pre WW1 1912 British WD Enfield 1st Pattern Hook Quillon 1907 Pattern Sword Bayonet With Australian 2nd Military District (New South Wales) Mark & WD Scabbard With Matching Australian District ‘NSW’ Mark & 1908 Pattern Frog. - 23408

1st Type 1907 pattern bayonets with hook quillon were introduced in 1908, after 1913, ‘07’ Pattern bayonets were produced without hook quillon (see page 186 of British & Commonwealth Bayonets by Skennerton). Early Hook quillon bayonets were carried by Australian troops at Gallipoli. This is an excellent, original 1st type hook quillon 1907 pattern sword bayonet by Enfield With Australian marks, complete with correct, original scabbard & frog with helve carrier strap. The sword bayonet has a 17” long steel single edged blade with fullers. The blade has just light staining consistent with age and no damage to the cutting edge. The blade is stamped at the ricasso on one side with the King’s Crown ‘GR’ (George Rex), ’5 ’12 production date (May 1912) and ‘1907’ (Pattern) together with ‘EFD’ manufacturer initials (Enfield). The reverse is stamped with WD inspection marks. The bayonet has the 1st pattern hook quillon cross guard which incorporates a muzzle ring. The cross guard is stamped ‘2MD’ indicating Australian issue to the 2nd Military District which is New South Wales & weapon number ‘21324’. The grips have just light bumps and bruises to be expected & are correctly secured with two screw bolts. The bayonets steel pommel release button works correctly. The bayonet is complete with its original steel mounted leather scabbard. The scabbard has the correct rear seam and the leather has WD inspection marks. The throat mount is stamped with matching Australian Military district ‘NSW’ (New South Wales) & weapon number ‘19737’. The scabbard is fitted with its original 1908 pattern webbing frog. The frog has the correct helve strap. All the stitching and material of the scabbard, frog and carrier are intact. The price for this rare piece includes UK delivery.
