This is an original British, 1859 dated, .577 TOWER Enfield pattern 1856, 2 band Sergeants 3 groove short rifle. The rifle is fitted with a double line TOWER lock plate which is stamped with the queens crown 1859 (date) TOWER and an inspection stamp. The barrel has a nice smooth browned finished barrel and is fitted with the correct 1100 yard backsight, a foresight on a block and a bayonet bar with a forward extension. The sergeants rifle always had iron furniture and this is fitted with the correct iron fittings, trigger guard, butt plate, nose cap, barrel bands and sling swivel fitted to the rear of the trigger guard. This rifle has a 33” round steel 3 grove barrel with a length of 49 inches. The bore has 3 groove rifling with just the staining from service use. rifle has all original woodwork which is in excellent condition.
