Instituted in 1894, this medal was awarded for 20 years’ service in the ranks. Officers could also receive the medal, being eligible on account of their non-commissioned service. Many officers then gained sufficient commissioned service to be awarded either the Volunteer Decoration, or from 1908, the Territorial Decoration. This medal was extended to Colonial Forces in June 1898, the titles of the monarch being appropriately expanded to this version and reading Victoria Regina et Imperatrix. This medal was superseded by the Territorial Force Efficiency Medal in 1908, although it continued to be awarded until 1930 in Bermuda, India, Isle of Man (Isle of Man Volunteers), and the 7th Volunteer Battalion of the King’s Liverpool Regiment. Stamped to the rear by manufacturer Henry Jenkins & Sons Birmingham (created in 1876 is most famously known for producing the Khedive's Star (Egypt) and the Kabul to Kandahar Star (Great Britain).
