The Webley Mark IV .38 was developed during the interwar period as a smaller and lighter alternative to Webley's famous large-frame .455 service revolvers. Although the British government ultimately adopted the closely related Enfield No.2 as its principal .38 service revolver, the Webley Mark IV enjoyed extensive military, police, governmental and commercial use in Britain and throughout the Commonwealth. Large numbers were supplied during WWII, with manufacture continuing after 1945 for police, governmental, commercial and export customers. This is an original early Police/Pocket Model Webley & Scott Mark IV Police/Pocket .38 calibre, 3 inch barrelled six-shot top-break revolver carrying the serial number B18769, manufactured in Birmingham between 1957 and 1965 and fitted with the desirable compact 3 inch barrel and having a sliding safety catch above the grips. The revolver is stamped MARK IV .38 on the left side of the barrel extension and MADE IN ENGLAND on the right. The top of the barrel is marked WEBLEY & SCOTT LTD BIRMINGHAM. The right side of the frame carries Webley's distinctive Webley Winged Bullet trademark. There are numerous original Birmingham proof and inspection marks, including Crown/BV, Crown/BP and Crown/NP markings. The serial number A37192 is clearly struck on the right side of the frame and cylinder with the matching final three digits 192 beneath the barrel, confirming matching serial numbers. The revolver retains its original black moulded chequered Webley logo grips. The compact 3-inch barrel gives this Police/Pocket configuration particularly appealing proportions compared with the longer barrelled Mark IV variants. Deactivated to an early UK specification the original deactivation certificate has been lost at some point in its life and a replacement UK only deactivation certificate was issued in 2026. The pistol cocks and dry fires correctly in both single & double action. The price includes the deactivation certificate and UK delivery. D 6005
