WW1, 1915 Dated, Imperial German E & F Horster Solingen, Pattern 98/05 Butcher Bayonet With Hessian Cord, Tasselled Knot & Leather Frog. Sn 23478:1 Bayonet

An excellent, original German WW1, 1915 dated, Mauser 98/05 Butcher Bayonet. The bayonet has the correct un-damaged 9 groove wooden grips which are secured with two original screw bolts. The cross guard correctly has no muzzle ring. The steel blade is crisply marked on the ricasso by the manufacturer E&F HORSTER SOLINGEN. The spine of the blade is stamped with the crown over W15 (1915 date) and an inspection stamp. The pommel is marked with 2 inspection stamps. The clean blade measures 14 ¼ inches long with an overall length of 19 3/8 inches. The hilt is fitted with an original period Hessian cord & tasselled knot. The original steel scabbard has just light staining to be expected with age and service use. The push button spring release operates as it should. The scabbard has the correct frog stud and is fitted with a brown leather frog. See pages 113 – 156, item 267 of White & Watts, The Bayonet Book.
