This is a nice Imperial German WW1, 1915 dated patter 98/05 butcher bayonet with high ears in its original steel scabbard The bayonet has the correct 9 groove wooden grips which are secured with two original screw bolts. The steel blade is crisply marked on the ricasso by the manufacturer SIMSON & CO SUHL. The spine of the blade is stamped with the crown over W15 (1915 date) and an inspection stamp. The pommel is marked with 2 inspection stamps. The clean blade measures 14 ¼ inches long with an overall length of 19 3/8 inches. The bayonet is contained in its original steel scabbard is in excellent condition. The push button spring release operates as it should.
