The bayonet has the correct 9 groove wooden grips which are secured with two original screw bolts. The cross guard correctly has no muzzle ring. The steel blade is crisply marked on the ricasso by the manufacturer WEYERSBURG KIRSCHBAUM & Cie SOLINGEN. The spine of the blade is stamped with the crown over W15 (1915 date) and an inspection stamp. The pommel is marked with 2 inspection stamps. The clean blade measures 14 ¼ inches long with an overall length of 19 3/8 inches. The hilt is fitted with an original period Hessian cord & tasselled knot to the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Company. The original steel scabbard is in excellent condition and has just light staining to be expected with age and service use. The push button spring release operates as it should. The scabbard has the correct frog stud and is fitted with a brown leather frog impressed with the makers name HERMAN ? 1915 NURENBERG at the rear.
