This is an excellent and very original 1916 dated Short Magazine Lee Enfield SMLE No.1 MK III .303 calibre rifle complete with its long range volley sights and early cocking piece. The rifle has all of its original wood work in excellent condition. The stock is inlaid with brass disc which is stamped II RIR (II Royal Irish Rifles) 730. . The steel grip strap has crisp date and manufacturer's stamps kings crown ,GR (George Rex) BSA CO (Birmingham Small Arms Company) SHT L.E III. The rifle is complete with its original long range volley sights and the correct cocking piece on the bolt. It has magazine cut off (fixed in place during deactivation process), charger loading bridge, correct winged foresight and ladder rear sight with protector wings, bayonet lug and webbing sling. The rifle carries the serial number 68752. Deactivated to early UK specification in 1990 the rifle cocks and dry fires, the cut off lever moves, the bolt and magazine can be removed.
