This is an original 1821 pattern Royal Artillery Officer’s sword & Scabbard (see page 99 of World Swords by Withers where he describes these swords as being carried by both Cavalry & Artillery officers). The sword has a 34 ¼” blade with fullers and measures 40 ½” overall. The blade has its original leather hilt washer. It has the correct fish skin grip with wire binding which is intact and tight and 3 bar nickel plated steel guard. The hilt has a stepped pommel with ball end and it has a knurled grip back to assist grip. The blade is etched and blued on both sides with foliate panels. One side is etched to the ‘Royal Artillery’, Artillery piece, WD proof star with inlaid roundel. The reverse has King’s Crown and Royal cypher ‘GRV’ (George V Rex). The spine of the blade has ‘Made In England’. There are no maker or date marks on the sword or scabbard. The leather covered field scabbard has a German Silver throat mount. All leather and stitching of the scabbard is intact, the leather having just light surface scuffs to be expected with age and service use. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 20545
