The Gordon Highlanders were a line Infantry Regiment of the British Army that existed for 113 years, from 1881 until 1994 when it was amalgamated with the Queen's Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons) to form the Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons). This is an original WW1 era Sporran to a Volunteer Battalion of Scottish Gordon Highlanders found together with its associated Glengarry Cap. The white horse hair sporran has 2 black horse hair tassels, with brass top mounts. It has its brown leather pouch with flap covered pocket, brass button and belt loops fitted with buff leather belt which has buckles. The front of the Sporran has the gilded metal Regiment Stag’s head badge of the Volunteer Battalions Gordon Highlanders bearing motto ‘Bydand’ (Steadfast) mounted on the plain brass cantle skirt. The associated period Glengarry has the correct dark blue serge body with black leather trim, red & white chequered headband and red bobble at the crown. It is lined with clean material and has correct black ribbon tassels (age related fraying to the tassel ends). The lining has its original paper size label ‘7’ (UK size).
