This is a rare German WW1 ersatz pattern 98/05 butcher bayonet with a sawback blade and riveted on pressed steel grips. The bayonet has large ears on the crossguard which is swept forward on the bottom. The blade is the standard butcher profile but is considerably narrower at 5.12mm wide at the crossguard as opposed to the usual 7mm wide. The spine of the blade at the hilt has a rounded profile as opposed to being ground flat and carries a crown over a stylised F inspection mark. The pressed steel grips have a cross drilled drain hole. The bayonet are contained in its original steel and leather scabbard with a steel locket and chape with a ball finial, are held on by steel laces.
