2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes 'FS' Fighting Knives were introduced in 1941 (see page 89-93 of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook). This is an excellent, original, WW2 2nd pattern, WD B2 marked, FS dagger and scabbard (see page 152 of the author’s book). The hilt is blackened brass with 2nd pattern knurled grip and blackened oval steel cross guard. The top of one side of the cross guard is stamped with B2 mark a known WW2 WD 2nd pattern designation & WD broad arrow. It has an excellent, clean, blued 166 mm long double edged blued blade with medial ridge. Its original leather scabbard has an external blackened brass chape. AS is common the scabbard’s original 4 sewn on leather tabs have been period cut back & the elasticated retaining strap is present but perished with age on one side.
