This is an excellent original Police presentation truncheon to a Special constable who saw service from the beginning of WWII and served throughout and beyond until 1945. Made of lignum vitae hard wood it is 15 ¼ “in length and has nicely coloured panels. It features the Kings Crown with Royal Cypher ‘GR’ (George Rex) together with Rochdale Coat of Arms and adopted Latin motto, which was Crede Signo or "Trust in this sign". It was based on that of Baron Byron of Rochdale. This is above banners with lettering 'Rochdale Special Constabulary 1938-1945'. It has a deep grooved grip with rounded end and recess for wrist strap. The wood is undamaged with no dents. All the original artwork is excellent and retains most of its original vivid colour.
