~ An 1854 Pattern British Naval Officers Sword And Scabbard ~
Using the Wilkinson’s dating chart the sword serial number ‘28368’ was manufactured in 1887.
The hilt bears the post-Victorian Tudor Crown and the etchings of the blade indicate that the sword was either issued quite late or it was reissued.
The blade bears on one side Edward’s 7th or possibly George’s 5th crown (with Edward 8th onwards, they put the monarch's personal royal cypher to the blade) whilst the other side on this one has only the British Royal Coat of Arms.
Also on the ricasso we can see the poof star on one side and the Wilkinson trade mark on the other.
The sword comes with a replacement tassel and its black leather and brass fitted scabbard.
The scabbard bears the manufacturer’s cartouche on its locket.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade length is 31 inches (78.8 cm) and the overall length of the sword is 37 inches (94 cm).
The sword in its scabbard length is 38 inches (96.5 cm).
It weighs 1.3 Kg.
