~ Starr Arms Co 6 shot .44 Percussion Revolver ~
A 6 shot, single action, percussion revolver by Starr Arms. The gun has a smooth dark wood grip and is marked to the frame "Starr Arms Co New York" "Starr's patent Jan 1856".
This model of revolver was developed as a less costly improvement on the earlier double action revolvers and appear to be rarer than the doubles.
The 1863 Starr was produced between 1863-1864 was in the same league as the Colt, Remington and Whitney of the day and was competitively priced against them at a cost of around $25 each. The 1863 Starr was a popular choice of weapon during the American Civil War.
~ Dimensions ~
The revolver measures 14 inches (36cm) in total with the barrel measuring 8 inches (20cm). This piece weighs 1.23kg.
~ Condition ~
There is some light pitting to the metal but the finish is overall fine. The wood grips look to be in a good state with only light wear.
The revolver cocks and releases smoothly. The cylinder spring is a little weak but it indexes well.
The bore is well used and shows some light pitting although a thorough clean will help this.
