Buying Frank Clark Air Pistols

Licensing

You must be 18 or over to purchase an air pistol in the UK. Air pistols are subject to a legal power limit of 6 ft/lb. Anything above this is a Section 1 firearm requiring a Firearms Certificate. Under the VCR Act (Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006), new air pistols cannot be delivered directly to a home address by a retailer. They must be collected in person or transferred through a Registered Firearms Dealer (RFD). Private second-hand sales between individuals are permitted face-to-face. Air pistols must only be discharged on private land with the landowner's permission, and pellets must not leave the boundary.

What to check

For spring pistols, check the cocking action for smoothness and the trigger for a clean break. For CO2 pistols, test that the gun seals on a fresh capsule and holds pressure. A gun that bleeds CO2 quickly will need new valve seals before use. For PCP pistols, ask about service history and check the pressure gauge reads correctly. On any used air pistol, inspect the barrel crown and breech seal, as these are the most common wear points.

What is included

Air pistols are often sold with CO2 capsules, pellets, a pump, holster or case included. Confirm exactly what the listing covers before agreeing a price, as a pump or carry case in particular can add meaningful value.

Selling Your Air Pistol?

Include the brand, model, calibre, power source (spring, CO2 or PCP), power output in ft/lb where known, and condition in your listing. State clearly whether any accessories (pump, case, CO2, pellets) are included. Photographs of the action, barrel and any included extras help buyers assess condition quickly.
