They must be collected in person or transferred through a Registered Firearms Dealer (RFD). Private second-hand sales between individuals are permitted face-to-face. Air pistols must only be discharged on private land with the landowner's permission, and pellets must not leave the boundary.

What to check

For spring pistols, check the cocking action for smoothness and the trigger for a clean break. For CO2 pistols, test that the gun seals on a fresh capsule and holds pressure. A gun that bleeds CO2 quickly will need new valve seals before use. For PCP pistols, ask about service history and check the pressure gauge reads correctly. On any used air pistol, inspect the barrel crown and breech seal, as these are the most common wear points.
