Most air rifles sold in the UK are sub-12ft/lb and do not require a licence for private ownership. Air rifles rated above 12ft/lb require a Firearms Certificate (FAC). What to check

For spring and gas-ram rifles, ask the seller if you can cock and dry-fire it to check the action for smoothness and any unusual noise. Check the barrel and stock for wear.
