Description

British Honourable East India Company (HEIC) ‘Pattern E’ (Enfield Pattern 1842 Type) .760” Calibre (11Bore) Muzzle Loading Percussion Musket With Correct Brunswick Pattern Brass Furniture & Hanoverian Bayonet Catch. Sn 17680 - 17680

These HEIC pattern muskets are often incorrectly described as Pattern 1842 because of their similarity to the Ordnance Board Pattern 42 Musket. In fact with the introduction of percussion ignition to EIC muskets in 1840 the EIC had six successive patterns of musket A to F, starting with those converted from flintlock (A & B) through the old series percussion side lock (C & D) to new series side lock (E) with Hanoverian Bayonet catch and new design “Brunswick” style brass furniture and finally (F) with a new design bayonet catch. This is an original HEIC ‘Pattern E’, 11 Bore Muzzle Loading Percussion Musket. The musket measures 54 ½” overall length with a 39” round steel barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore has staining & residue consistent with age and use. The barrel has a block fore sight, ‘v’ notch block rear sight and British black powder proofs. It has its original lock plate which is crisply marked with the HEIC rampant Lion mark. The musket has its original walnut stock with Brunswick pattern brass furniture, heavy military hammer and Hanoverian bayonet catch. The wood has just knocks bumps and bruises to be expected. It has an iron ramrod and single sling swivel. The wood has brass furniture and the butt plate has native Indian marks. The cocking and firing mechanisms work as they should. The metal work has even patina throughout. The price includes UK delivery. N.B As an antique musket no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display.
