J. Gane of Cattle Market, Bridgwater, Somerset was a provincial gunmaker and firearms dealer recorded as working between 1894 & Circa 1901 (see page 224 of British Gunmakers Vol.2 by Brown. This double barrel hammerless sporting shotgun by Gane has 29 ¾” brown wash steel barrels. The barrels, set side by side have a central flat top barrel rib and bead foresight. The rib is signed by the maker ‘J. Gane of Cattle Market, Bridgwater’. The action has Foliate decorated panels. It has its original Prince of Wales form wood stock which has just light bumps and bruises to be expected with age and use and double triggers. The wrist & fore stock have chequered panels and the fore stock has a polished horn cap and it has a ribbed polished horn butt plate. The underside of the shoulder stock has an inlaid void German Silver shield. The shotgun is number 159 (not visible externally). Deactivated to UK/EU specification in 2026 the weapon’s top lever break action opens the breech, the hammers move but do not cock & the triggers move.
