This is an original French Spontoon / Pike dating from between 1700- 1740; it retains its original ash shaft, 73 inches long, with a three section atrophied design metal shoe measuring 5 1/4" The crossbar is curled in opposite directions and measures 3 1/2"across. The spear point is fixed and is razor sharp, it measures 8 1/4". The side bars are 16 1/2" long. On the ash shaft near to the head are the letters 'I M' The total length of this spontoon is 91" This is a rare item, not offered for sale before from a local collection.
