INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an original WW2 Mills No 36 MK I, hand grenade manufactured by Galt Metal Industries, Ontario, Canada. The body of the grenade is made of cast iron and has cast into the front G (Galt Metal Industries, Ontario, Canada). The grenade retains much of its original brown varnished finish with the green band round the middle signifying Amatol explosive and red crosses round the top signifying high explosive. The detonator holder has cast into it 7 I 45 (1945 date) and carries a dummy detonator which is stamped INERT. The alloy base plug has cast into it No 36M Mk 1 a letter S in a hexagonal lozenge and 45 (1945 date).the steel fly off lever is stamped CHAT CO (Chatham Company, Ontario, Canada). The grenade has the moulding number 2 under the fly off lever. The grenade is fitted with a steel filler plug.
