INERT. This is a scarce, pack of Eley patent 14 bore muzzle loading shotgun cartridges. The pack consists of 12 shot cartridges that were manufactured to slow the scatter of shotgun pellets when fired from an unchoked bore of the early muzzle loading shotguns. The cartridges were manufactured from the 1830s and continued up to the First World War. The wire cartridges use declined with the use of a choked bore, introduced to keep the shot pattern a greater distance from the muzzle. This paper pack of 12 patent wire cartridges has Eley’s green label on one end which has printed on it in black 14 (gauge) 1 ¼ (weight of the shot) 6 (pellet size). The pack holds 12 patent wire cartridges which have a paper outer with a cloth tab on one end and an orange round label on the other which has printed on it 14 GAGUE BOTTOM. The other end of the pack has the price hand written in idk 7/4 . The price for this rare pack includes UK delivery and no licence is required to possess these wire cartridges in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. O 1746
