This is an excellent Marlin Model ‘97 takedown ever action rifle that was made in .22 calibre. The rifle has a 23 ½” octagonal barrel that retains much of its original blued finish and also a full length tube magazine which also retains most of its original blued finish. The rifle has an ornately engraved steel receiver and slide and is stamped on the tang MARLIN MODEL ‘97. The rifle dates to post 1906, with having 2 screws on the top rear of the receiver for the new Hepburn receiver sight drilled and tapped although the sights were not offered as standard. The rifle measures 40 inches in length and is fitted with a flat shotgun shaped butt plate and a steel fore end cap. The rifle is fitted with a blade foresight with an ivory coloured bead inlet into it and an 2 position flip up rear sight. The top of the barrel in front of the rear sight is stamped with the Marlin firearms and patent numbers. Behind the rear sight is engraved the owners name Charles Mc Shaun. The rifle has excellent woodwork with only minor marks from use. The rifle cocks, the bolt moves forward and back, the hammer & trigger with the lever action.
