Description

Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 2390. A very rare pre-Napoleonic Era French Military Flintlock pistol dated 1782 on the stock. The date stamped into the grip signifies that this pistol was made during the reign of Louis XV1 in the years leading up to the Napoleonic wars and also in the middle of the American war of Independence (1775-1783). The lock-plate is stamped with a crown over the letter L. indicating the reign of Louis XV1 (1754-1793). The lock is also engraved with the manufacturing arsenal name "St. Etienne". Standard military issue brass butt-cap, trigger guard and frame. Condition is very good with some signs of normal use. Action works fine. The woodwork in good condition. Complete with its original steel ramrod. The steel belt hook is missing. This model Flintlock pistol are quite rare. Barrel length 7.25 inches. Calibre approx .70 cal. Overall length approx 13 inches. Many French manufactured military Flintlocks were imported into the U.S.A. during the 18th-19th century and it is well documented that this type of weapon were carried extensively in the USA as well as throughout the Napoleonic Peninsula campaigns circa 1808-1815. This type of heavy calibre flintlock pistol were carried by the French infantry, naval personnel and cavalry officers during the era of the Napoleonic campaigns of the late 18th-early 19th century, including at the Battle of Waterloo. This pistol could easily have been carried during the American Revolutionary war or indeed at the battle of waterloo on June 18th 1815. Ref 2390.
