Description

Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com Ref 3996. A Rare North American Indian Pipe-Tomahawk with an iron blade. Probably 19th century. The trade pipe-bowl terminating in a V shape at each side where it joins the axe socket. The iron axe socket is also cut at each side with two narrow channels for the wire/cord fixing to run down as was normal with many trade tomahawk blades. The blade with several dozen later multi-cut decorations running along each side top and bottom of the blade edges, quite likely these cuts were made by the original tomahawk owner as identification as well as decoration. The wood shaft has a shaped mouth-piece to one end and three silver inlaid sea shells inset near the head. It has a lovely genuine patina to the wood. There is a wooden plug fitted to the other end of the shaft. This tomahawk is in very good condition and is quite possibly a ceremonial piece, these pipe-tomahawks were highly regarded by the North American Indians and were often taken from them as souvenirs in the early pioneer days of the USA. Overall length approx 20 inches. Guaranteed completely original. Probably 18th or 19th Century. The blade length is approx 7 inches. Ref 3996.
