This sword was made for and owned by the vetinary horse surgeon of the Honourable Artillery Company in 1891. The officers name will be added soon.
The blade is etched with scrolling arabesques on both sides.
One side the blade is etched with the sword-smiths name ‘Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London’, the coats of arms of the Prince of Wales, `By Appointment Ich Dien`.
The opposite side is etched with the RA standard, ‘Royal Artillery’ inscription and is marked with the proof star.
The grip is made of metal wired black shagreen.
The sword comes with its brown leather scabbard.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade length is 33 inches (84 cm) and the overall length of the sword is 39 inches (99 cm).
The overall length of the sword in its scabbard is 41 ½ inches (105.5 cm).
~ Condition ~
The hilt has lost its chrome.
There is some wear to the leather and plating but the sword fits its scabbard sweetly.
The sword is in good overall condition. The scabbard is quite worn and missing its tip.
