Enfield No 4 Rifle

An excellent example of a deactivated .303 British made B/A Enfield No 4 Mk 1 rifle. With matched serial numbers and deactivated in 1989 this is an old spec deactivation that cocks, dry fires and strips for basic cleaning. Serial number JB25767 and comes with the appropriate deactivation certificate.

The butt contains a pull through and oil bottle, sights adjust , magazine detaches and can be loaded from above by clip or separately with individual deactivated rounds . Comes with an appropriate rifle sling, and bayonet with scabbard. The top of the bayonet is marked No4 Mk II and stamped. The pig sticker had to fit the existing 37 pattern frogs and so to stop the scabbard being pulled out of the early type of frog a retaining strap for the scabbard was developed. This example is I believe a BBF 162 type 4th issue frog, markings are too worn to read but could be British or Indian in origin.

For information the offering also includes an original Small Arms Training Pamphlet dtd 1942 which contains good information on the use of the rifle. The pamphlet has the writing Bdr Hopkin(s) and the letter C at the top.

Ammunition for the rifle came in bandoliers of 50 rds, of 10 x 5 rd clips which could be worn slung across the chest for ease of access. The actual GS pouches on the 37 pattern belt were for extra Bren mags and other items like 36 grenades and Thompson/Sten Magazines. A bandolier is provided with 15rds of deactivated ammo if required in 3 x 5 rd clips. For storage, transportation and display a 1937 reproduction Lee Enfield Valise is provided with the set.

Suitable for collectors or re-enactors this is a fine example of what was possible the best bolt action rifle of WW2. Very reasonable Priced this is a collection only item and buyers must be over 18 years of age and prepared to provide proof of identity and current address to comply with current regulations.
