A very unusual small size French flintlock pistol with a screw-off barrel, of the pre- Napoleonic era. Circa 1740-1760. This type of high quality pistol would have been carried by a French gentleman or wealthy traveller as a personal self-defence weapon during the years before the Napoleonic wars. The 4 inch steel barrel is quite unusual as it is covered with engraved silver plated bands. The silver plated side-plate embossed with foliage. The lock also silver plated overall. Length 8.5 inches. Good working action. The pistol showing some very minor signs of genuine use, generally in good condition and the action in working order. Ref 1612.
