Circa 1800. This Pistol is a good example of a British military officer's Flintlock pistol with the “TOWER” mark stamped to the lock-plate, showing that it was manufactured at the Tower of London armoury, and “GR” for George 111 is engraved on the lock plate. George The Third was the King of England from 1760 to 1820 and was monarch during some of the most turbulent years in British military history, mainly due the the lengthy wars going on in the Peninsular campaigns against the French led by Napoleon Bonaparte, as well as the uprising against the British crown in the USA, known as the American Revolutionary war. Fully stocked in walnut with a standard military pattern swivel steel ramrod, brass butt cap, side-plate and trigger guard. The 9 inch steel barrel stamped with two British proof marks. A good example of this classic military weapon. Overall length 15.5 inches. In good working order and condition, showing some signs of genuine wear and use. The stock struck with military broad arrow markings, B.O. for board of Ordnance, and the date 1800. A great piece of military history. Ref 1613. A nice addition to any collection.
