A scarce Pair of English percussion travelling pistols the barrells fitted underneath with spring bayonets. Manufactured by G & J DEANE LONDON. Circa 1835-1850. George and John Deane were trading at No. 30 King William Street, London Bridge and were appointed gunmakers to Prince Albert in 1848. They later became the "Deanes" in "DEANE ADAMS and DEANE" in 1851, hence pistols made by G & J DEANE are relatively early and quite scarce. The barrells both engraved on top G & J DEANE LONDON. The breech and the barrel stamped underneath with London view and proof marks. Decorative scroll engraving to the side plates, trigger guards and hinged butt caps. Fine chequered grips. The pistols retaining most of their original finish. A scarce and fine pair of English percussion travelling pistols. Ref 9405.
