This is a Remington Rolling Block rifle that was used by the Cuban Volunteers in the 10 years war from 1868 too 1878. Cuban Volunteers rifles have very distinctive markings. The bubble like flower on the right of the chamber and the Fleur d Lis on the on the left is the mark of the Ejercito Ultramar or the Spanish Colonial Overseas Army indicating it was issued in Cuba. These rifles are also marked with Crown over RV on the barrel. They are closely assoicated with the Cuban Volunteers who fought for independence from Spanish control. How this rifle came to be in UK is unknown, but suffice to say there cant be very many of them!
This historic rifle is chambered in an antique obsolete calibre (section 58) and can therefore be own live without any form of license. The bore is very good condition throughout and action can be cocked stripped and dry fired.
