A German M84/98 First Model bayonet and scabbard as issued to Airship Battalions. These bayonets were issued to Airship battalions for use with the M98 Rifle. Although new bayonets for M98 they were manufactured utilising blades of the M71/84 bayonets and were therefore designated the Seitengewehr m84/98. The bayonet has a steel pommel with push button release. The wood slab grips are secured with two rivets. The cross guard is short and straight and it is stamped "R R 102". The blade is stamped with "Alex Coppel Solingen". The blade is polished steel, fullered and measures 9 3/4". The steel mounted leather scabbard is also stamped with "44. R.2. 30" denoting the 30th Bayonet, 2nd Company, 44th Regiment. (see White & watts The Bayonet book, Page 114 & 125, item 273. see also Janzen's Notebook, Page 81, item 1).
