This is an excellent Wakazashi Short Sword Koto period cut down from an earlier sword. It has 4 mekugi ana (peg holes) indicating that this sword is of great age C1500-1600. The hand forged clean blade with midare wave hamon and good polish is 18 ¼” long and it measures 24 ½” overall. Its original handle is an unusual rattan wrap which has buffalo horn mounts. It has plain iron tsuba, fuchi and kashira with light vine scroll work. Brass dragons decorate each side of the handle. It has its original signed Kozuka blade which sits perfectly in the scabbard. The kozuka has a brass handle with matching dragon design. The blade of the Kozuka measures 4 ¼” and is signed with script characters most likely a family name and ‘Kane Tori’ a Japanese sword smith recorded as working around C1716. The wood scabbard has a black lacquered finish and is undamaged. The scabbard is fitted with black cord. Price for this excellent Japanese piece includes UK delivery. ED 247
