This is a quality Japanese Tanto with an ancient C1584 pristine blade. The 8 ¼” long blade has well defined undulating hamon with excellent polish and no nicks or damage to the cutting edge. It measures 13 ¼” overall length. The Tang is signed on both sides indicating the maker to be Sukesada C1584 ( the markings are worthy of further translation & research). Its handle has Shagreen and leather covering and brass ‘Labourer’ menuki. It has white metal habaki and gilt decorated Kashira & Fuchi. The weapon is complete with its attractive lacquered wood scabbard which has a white metal ‘Tsunami’ pattern end cap. The scabbard is undamaged and fitted with tasselled cord. The throat has insets which hold a small kozuka knife with 3” steel blade, copper handle and metal animal form decoration on one side and two 7 ¼” long black painted copper Kogai with gilt work on the other side (spikes for Samurai hair decoration).
