The Enfield Lee Metford, 1888 Mark 1, Type 2 Bayonet was manufactured for the British .303 calibre Enfield, Lee Metford Rifle which were issued to British and allied forces during the Boer war and WW1. The Bayonet has a superb clean double edged and unfullered blade with a medial ridge running from the ricasso to the blade tip and the the blade is crisply marked '9 95' identifying the Bayonet as being manufactured in Sept 1895, it is also crisply stamped with the VR and 'Flat Top' Crown ( Victoria Regina) together with WD arrow and inspection marks. The pommel is stamped with weapon number '123'. This excellent condition Bayonet comes complete with Black leather Scabbard with steel Locket & Chape. The throat of the scabbard is stamped with matching number '123'. Also included is it's Slade Wallace Equipment, Boer War Era Buff Coloured leather belt with adjustment leather straps and brass fittings which include it's heavy cast circular brass 2 piece Royal Cypher buckle with Lion and Crown centre piece together with outer band which contains the Latin inscription 'Dieu Et Mon Droit'. Interestingly the inside of the belt is Stamped in black ink to the 2nd battalion Life Guards 'L.G.2'. The belt (approx UK size 32-36" Waist) and scabbard are mounted with it's original buff coloured 'Slade Wallace' leather, frog with brass buckle & large single belt loop.
