An Italian M1870 Vetterli hook quillon sabre bayonet and leather scabbard. The bayonet has a 20 1/2" single edged polished steel blade with central fuller. The ricasso is stamped with the makers stamp, a crown above "TA". The hook quillon is stamped on the side with "W 5257" and has a full muzzle ring. It has a steel pommel with a long side spring which is secured by a screw. It has smooth black painted grips secured with two screw bolts. The pommel is stamped "1A 12" on the side. The pommel has a release push button which works smoothly. The scabbard is black leather with a brass chape and brass mounted which incorporates a brass belt hook which is secured with a screw bolt. The scabbard is stamped on the outside near the top with "Three Ann???? 1884". The bayonet and scabbard are in very good condition. (See pages 189 & 193 fig. 428 in White's The Bayonet Book).
