This is an excellent original 1879 Pattern Sawback Bayonet For Martini Henry Artillery Carbines. These bayonets are hard to find with original scabbards. This is a fine example of the P1879 sawback bayonet. It has a 26" blade with fuller in the top section and medial ridge in the lower section. It's saw back is superb and very sharp. The ricasso is faintly marked Crown VR (Victoria Regina) and with inspection marks. The bayonet measures 31 1/2" overall and has excellent chequered black grips. The back of the blade is stamped 'W.R' and the back of the steel grip strap is crisply stamped with inspection marks together with 'B.J.A'. The pommel is crisply stamped 'R.F.A' to the Royal Field Artillery together with numbers '91' and '73' and dated '10.99' (October 1899). It has a full steel knuckle guard slotted for wrist strap & stepped steel pommel. The sprung bayonet catch button in the pommel works perfectly. The bayonet is complete with original steel mounted black leather scabbard. The locket is stamped '23'.
